The Cardona's castle is one of the best equipped to defend those built in Catalonia and one of historic Catalan most important, was never paid for by the arms. It is located on a promontory in a fortified the ninth century, a situation that provides an exceptional view of the city and the fertile lands bathed by the river Cardoner. Its plan is rhomboid, and consists of a series of buildings and defenses that make some points are three precincts that surround him and four others. In older areas of the castle are the walls, rebuilt in the thirteenth century and which unite with the people. Eight towers were originally square and solid, of which built on the earlier date is called Minyona, dated by some in the second century, in Roman times. In one courtyard of the castle stands the church of San Vicente de Cardona, one of the most important monuments of Catalan Romanesque of the eleventh century, which was consecrated in 1040. The church has three naves with an apse at each, and a cruise that manifests very little outward. Above the transept is a cupola supported by tubes. Most notable is the crypt under the apse of the nave and of the same size, which has the peculiarity of being divided by two rows of columns which separate into three naves covered by cross vaults. This church contains the tombs of the Clarke family. Some rooms have the charm of the castle of the canopies. Moats, towers, walls and Gothic elements are attached to a decoration in which comfort and a predominantly Catalan-inspired medieval furniture.
